About Trust Flyfishing

Trust Flyfishing was founded by Fred le Roux, a passionate flyfisherman and instructor with years of experience competing at the highest levels. From coaching provincial surfing teams to representing South Africa at international flyfishing championships, Fred’s journey has been one of dedication and excellence.

Our mission is to inspire and equip individuals with the skills to master flyfishing while fostering a deep connection with nature.

About Fred

I have lived and played in and around the Ocean all my life and started fishing from a very young age in Durban South Arica. I gravitated towards sports fishing, eventually starting to fly fish in 1997.

Having become a provincial surfer (Zululand and Natal South Africa;) I made a deal with the local high school teacher, if I taught the children to surf, he would teach me to fly fish and fly tie.

I have fly fished in 9 different countries, namely, South Africa, Maldives, Scotland, England, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, South America and Italy. To date I have caught 96 different fish species on fly.

Entomology Diploma for Fresh Water Fly-Fishing Still Waters and Rivers
Chairman of Oxeye Saltwater Fly Fishing Club for two terms
Extensive tag and release work for (ORI) Oceanic Research Institute in the Richards Bay and greater Zululand area (South Africa.) This is ongoing research to stablish a conservation project to protect endangered fish species
Represented my local Province, KwaZulu Natal at National Fly-Fishing Championships in B nationals, Vaal River 2017, A national,2018 in Kamberg, Masters nationals in Dullstroom, Masters nationals 2019 in Limpopo, Masters Nationals 2021 Cape Town. A nationals Barkly East 2022, World Masters championships Italy 2022(July).
First position on national masters ranking, two years in a row.
Member of KwaZulu Natal Fly Fishing Team, Masters and A national open team.

2019 Masters, placed 4th in individual.
2019 Masters team won silver medal
2020 Master’s Protea Trials for Czech Republic world champs
Made the masters 2021 Protea team to go to Czech Republic for World Masters Championships, unfortunately due to the Covid endemic, the trip was cancelled.
2021 Master’s championships Cape town. Placed second and got individual silver medal
Gold medal for team KZNFFA Cape Town 2021
2021-year end, ranked no 1 Masters fly fisherman in South Africa.
Made the masters fly-fishing team -Full Protea colours -representing South Africa in Italy 19th to 24th July 2022.
Represented KZNFFA at A National Championships (premier league) in Eastern Cape March 2022
Won individual Gold medal at South African Masters champs, February 2023
Won team Gold for KZNFFA at National Masters Championships February 2023.
